Afrobeats singer Aston Madzima popularly known as Astrue, is on cloud nine after releasing his debut Extended Play (EP).
Titled “Chiringa Zuva” the EP has four tracks.
In his music journey, he also joined Starbrite Zim for the first time in 2017 (S6) where he reached the finals and unfortunately didn’t grab the prize, and he tried again in 2022.
The 28-year-old won season 10 of Starbrite.
“I was raised by a caring grandmother in Gokwe Nembudziya, where I spent my whole childhood. Growing up as “Gogo’s boy”, I was very naughty but smart and talented.
“Being born with that passion for singing and acting, it came to light when I took part in these activities at school. I used to perform at school functions and community functions,” he said.
Astrue also led the school choir and drama club.
“I was mischievous, my grandmother never believed that her grandson had that much of a talent. Whenever I asked my grandmother to attend a function I was performing at, she never came, not because she did not want to, but fun enough it was because she thought her naughty grandson had started with his lies and drama.
“It came a time when she was forced by the neighbors, to go and support him at a school function he was performing at.
“That is when she realised how great her grandson was and she cried tears of joy. From then she was his source of inspiration and motivation because I always wanted to make her proud.
Generally Astrue is an arts person he enjoys reading novels, writing songs and watching football during his spare time.
He is a family person too. Fashion is his sixth sense. He likes dressing on point, from shoes to clothes, in-fact dressing on point is one of his other greatest abilities.
He believes smartness is next to Godliness, which brings another interest of his, singing in church! He loves singing for the Lord.
Astrue has released a number of singles. The masterpiece of his work so far is his collaboration with Mambo Dhuterere, a track titled Datan naKora which was his breakthrough to the musical scene.
He also collaborated with other renowned musicians such as Mbeu and Dhadza D on track titled “Mhanduwe”,Mwendamberi (Solution GC) on a track titled “Ndichange Ndinewe”.
Astrue also admires musicians like Nutty O who he believes is an international sensation and hopes to collaborate with him in the future.
