A 12-year-old Quality Junior School student is feeling on top of the world after coming out tops in the four-day PriDC Debate and Public Speaking competition which ended in Nairobi, Kenya, yesterday.
Panganai Munemutsa was the toast of the show as she charmed adjudicators with her flawless performance and a fine mixture of coherence and thoroughness in presenting her facts.
Quality Junior School entered eight students into the prestigious competition that had over 68 other learners drawn from across the continent.
The competition, which started on Saturday, ended yesterday.
The Quality Junior School students were battling 68 other students from around the world.
The eight students are Munemutsa, Chiedza Mushipe, Theophilus Shenje, Yeukai Zifamba, Sharmaine Gore, Chanice Paringira, Sasha Kabozo and Takunda Nyikadzino.
The three students, who qualified for the 10, are Munemutsa, Yeukai, and Sharmaine.
The students also won in the debate category when they took part in a similar competition in Beira, Mozambique, in August.
In an interview, the director and founder of the school, Dr Maria Mafunga-Kimu, said the students were flying the Zimbabwe flag very high.
“Sharmaine Gore did well in storytelling and the hope is for the students to make us proud like what they did in Mozambique.
“We are pleased to announce that our eight students, who travelled to Nairobi Kenya for the PriDC Debate and Public Speaking Competitions on Friday 22 November 2024, to represent Zimbabwe, are now in the top 10.
“Our learners initially went to Beira, Mozambique in Term 2 where they won in a competition which featured other schools from Zimbabwe and other neighbouring countries, taking first position.
“They then qualified to move to the next round, which is now being held in Kenya.
“We would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support from the parents and guardians of our candidates for the prestigious PriDC competitions,” she said.-H-Metro
